Barely a fortnight after Apple began talking with China Mobile about getting the iPhone into the ginormous Chinese market, it seems that negotiations are off — or still on, or something. Yesterday, Nanfang Daily reported that China Mobile’s CEO felt that the “iPhone model was not suitable for China,” but unnamed reporters suggested that the real reason behind the call-off was the inability for both entities to agree on — surprise, surprise — a revenue sharing model. Today, however, a report over at Bloomberg notes that Apple has in fact not ended discussions with China Mobile, and moreover, it was said to have “denied newspaper reports” claiming otherwise. ‘Course, we’ve got two sides of the story here, and while Apple may feel that there’s still room to negotiate, China Mobile may see things quite differently. Time will tell, we guess.

If there’s one thing I love, it’s games with non-traditional graphics.  So many titles these days rely on “almost looks real!” true-to-life renders, often at the expense of gameplay itself.  Hence why I’m glad to see Crayon Physics for the iPhone (or iPod Touch) - just like in the PC version you can draw shapes, dots and lines and then interact with them in a number of levels.  It’s the handiwork of r4m0n and he’s been a busy guy with multiple updates and bug-fixes since the project started five days ago.

The iPhone is a capable little chap in its own right, but it also makes for a decent way to control another PC or Mac remotely.  As for how to do that, you’ve got two options: either a full remote setup using something like VNC, or function specific such as this uTorrent BitTorrent client interface specially fettled for the iPhone.

Erica Sadun released an app today that changes the iPhone’s carrier with ease. Previously you had to do a ton of command line stuff to change the carrier logo, but now all you have to do is type in the name after opening the app. After typing in the name, springboard will restart and show your new logo.

With this being the apparent last app from iApp-a-Day, we thank Sean Heber for his excellent work and donation of his time to make these apps that really showed that the iPhone has potential with 3rd party apps. After playing with this application for some time, it’s a decent, fun app. The objective is to hit the circles together using the accelerometer and making songs with them. After a while it gets boring when you realize you have no real control over where the circles go, and end up getting frustrated.

AT&T accused of discrimination by deaf usersShould you be expected to pay for something if you are unable to use it?  That’s one of the questions currently causing no small amount of frustration over at deafmac, as they remonstrate with AT&T with regards the lack of a data-only plan for the iPhone.  Chad Taylor contacted AT&T when he noticed they were offering a voice-only version of the Apple contract, to point out that it smacked of discrimination for deaf users to whom inclusive minutes are useless.  The carrier responded first by pointing him in the direction of another handset that can be bought with a deaf-friendly plan, and then withdrew the voice-only option leaving the cheapest iPhone contract at $59.99 a month.

Could it be that the mark of a true business mastermind is identifying the oddest source of extraneous cost and ruthlessly scything it out?  If so, Apple iPod chief Tony Fadell might just be a genius: the latest patent application to go public from the company, bearing his name, is for a collapsible CD or DVD adaptor that snaps around an 8cm disk and makes it the correct, 12cm diameter to fit safely into a slot-loading drive.  The reason for this new splash of intellectual property?  Saving on shipping and production costs of software releases.
