Apple has sponsored, and will attend, the Handheld Learning Conference and Exhibition taking place in London next week (10-12 October), with the aim of evangelising its products to the British education market.
However, it’s not its range of laptops being demonstrated, but the iPhone and iPod Touch. Granted, this is a showcase for hand-held products, but I’m not convinced UK schools and colleges are ready for an influx of iPhones onto the school playground.
“Young people already use mobile technology in almost every aspect of their daily lives – and now it’s the time for education to catch up,” the exhibition organisers explained in a press release.
Traditionally, Apple hasn’t had a particularly strong presence in the UK classroom, and I’m not convinced that the iPhone and iPod range are going to change that.
