One of the more noticeably missing applications from Apple’s wunderphone, the iPhone is a solid instant messenger client. Thankfully, since the iPhone SDK was released, third-party developers have more than stepped to the plate and provided iPhone owners with an dizzying array of options.
Along with support for: AIM/MobileMe, MSN Hotmail/Messenger, Yahoo, GoogleTalk, MySpace, ICQ and Jabber, BeejiveIM is able to keep you logged in to your account even after quitting the application. This is an important feature as Apple has yet to implement the Push Notification Services (PNS) and only upon starting the application will you see incoming chat messages. There is however an option that allows BeejiveIM to mail you whenever an IM comes in…these are only temporary fixes until Apple comes up with a more “elegant” solution.
- The ability to send and receive files over the internet (Both pictures and voice notes)
- The ability to view and forward received documents (MP3s, PDF, DOC & XLS)
- User configurable chat backgrounds
- Full unicode support, chat in any language
- Keyboard available in landscape mode
- Chat history can be recorded
- Support for hyperlinks (YouTube videos, email addresses and phone numbers)
- Emoticons support
- SMS outgoing support via AIM or Yahoo
- Either bulk account manageable or single account manageable
- and the list goes on…
Let’s just put it this way, there are A LOT of features and I’m not sure a single vid review covers them all. I may try to do a follow up video to my YouTube review, so keep an eye out for it.
