It’ll come as no surprise to hear that we love the iPhone 3G here at iPhone Buzz, but we’re not such fans of its battery life.  A well-used iPhone 3G can fail to last the day, which is why we’re also so keen on the Mophie Juice Pack Air.  Now, courtesy of Mophie themselves, we’ve got a Juice Pack Air to give away to one lucky iPhone Buzz reader!

mophie_juicepack_air_giveaway

The Juice Pack Air promises to double your iPhone 3G’s runtime, as well as offering the protection of a hard case.  Despite that, it’s only 0.75-inches thick, and adds just 20-percent more weight.  Check out our review of the Mophie Juice Pack Air here.

To enter, and stand a chance of winning a Juice Pack Air worth $79.99, leave a comment in this post telling us about the time you drained your iPhone 3G’s battery the quickest.  We’ll pick one comment at random after the closing date – May 18th at 12pm central time – and that person will take away a Mophie Juice Pack Air!  If you want more chances to win, we’re also giving them away at SlashGear and PhoneMag.

Terms and Conditions

Competition is open to residents of the US over the age of 18.  Family members of Mophie and R3 Media are not permitted to enter.  Competition entries are only accepted via the specified comments section; entries left in the comments of any other post will not be recognized.  Entries should be submitted before 12pm central time on May 18th; one entry per person.

The winner will be announced on this site and contacted via email; they will be expected to respond within 48 hours else their prize may be forfeit and another winner selected.  Editors decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.  Winner agrees that their name and details of their entry may be used for promotional purposes by, but not limited to, R3 Media.  Prize consists of a one Mophie Juice Pack Air.  There is no cash alternative.

When i first got the phone i took it home and downloaded every free game i could. Little did i know that all that and then playing the games for about two hours or so would drain my battery. But it was ok because i had an IPhone!

I just got my iPhone, but I already ran down the battery by listening to half a baseball game on the awesome MLB.com app.

Hmm when i was listening to music on my iphone as well i was going to a roadtrip to houston Texas while living in florida by the time i hit alabama it went dead so going there with no texting, calling or music sucked!

One day my boss did not go to work so I decided to spend some time with my phone. In between games, applications, and youtube, I drained that sucker dried in less than 3 hours. Wife was really pissed off. She had no keys for the apartment and had no way to communicate with me… That was a loooong nigh!

I drain ny iPhone regularly playing Slotz Racer. My friends and I all had slot car tracks as kids, and the play on Slotz is perfect… just as frustrating to keep the car on the track now as it always was. Years later, on my first professor job, my office came with a box that had… slot cars, track and a transformer in it! The grad students there barely knew what it was, but they learned. I’m not teaching anymore, but Slotz racer would regularly make me late getting papers graded if I was.

I find every time that I use streaming music it is a real battery strain. I recently started using a bluetooth dongle for stereo bluetooth… nothing eats battery more!

Chronic Youtube watching day!

I’ve been using the application RunKeeper, which doesn’t allow you to put the screen to sleep. It uses GPS and runs all the time. Full Battery to Empty in an hour and a half.

I was in Tampa for the world series, it was October 2008 hours before game one between the Tampa Rays and the Philadelphia Phillies. A friend and I had traveled from Boston to watch the fall classic. I had a couple extra tickets that I was attempting to sell via ebay. I had some “best offers” via ebay streaming in as it neared game time. I was negotiating with multiple buyers as my friend drove us to Tropicana Field. I was communicating via my iPhone 3G via email, ebay website and the ebay app. I finally settled on a price with a prospective buyer and I was warned…”Low Battery 20% remaining”!!! Oh no, I thought. So I sent an email to the buyer informing him that I was now at the stadium and to call me. As I waited for the buyer to call, I emailed the other prospective buyers and informed them that I had sold the tickets. As I was emailing, I received the dreaded “Low Battery 10% remaining”!!! I was getting nervous, so I began to email the person that purchased the tickets with my friends phone number and no sooner did I hear the woooosh from the iPhone signaling a sent email did I see the spinning pin wheel of the iPhone shutting down.

Luckily the buyer received the emails and called my friends phone so we could meet to finalize the ticket sale. An extra battery pack would have been nice to extend the iPhone’s battery life. I may have even got some pictures to share while I was at the game!

I lose my power the most when surfing the web for work and also for a little play time in between with Solitaire City. Sure wish they would make it easier to replace the battery like other phones. I guess it’s one of the draw back to the iphone.

Working all day I listen to music on my iphone. Pair that with taking calls and texts all day long and my battery dies by the end of the day!

Andrew May 13, 2009 @ 5:24 pm

I love my iPhone and I wouldn’t change it for anything except for one with a better battery life. I’m a heavy user and it gets frustrating everytime the battery gets low when I’m not around a charger. I’m a delivery driver for a title company and I love using google maps and GPS to find new locations in unfamiliar areas. The problem is this rapidly drains my battery and leaves me very little power to unproductively, but happily, waste my time playing games or god forbid make an important phone call at the end of the day. Please help me Mophie Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.

My battery drains from just watching a movie all the way charged to empty my battery life stinks

Jake May 13, 2009 @ 6:32 pm

On my way to North Carolina to meet my dad for the second time and his side of the family for the first, I decided to turn my phone on airplane mode and listen to some music. Halfway through Cynic’s masterpiece Traced in Air, I fell asleep, unknowingly leaving it on repeat..
It must have played the cd 20 times, because when I woke up and landed, the phone was completely dead.
I get off the plane, collect my baggage, and panic because I couldn’t find them. Fun times. :P
It all turned out well in the end though.

Leo May 13, 2009 @ 6:40 pm

When i first got my iPhone 3G i didn’t really know how bad the battery life is. That weekend i was traveling in a car and decided that i would watch a movie. MAN!! i wish i wouldn’t have cause it died shortly after!! If only i had Mophie Juice Pack !!

Mike May 13, 2009 @ 6:54 pm

I drained my battery in 7 hours and 34 minutes. With full brightness, Wifi, Bluetooth on and everything that uses a lot of power. I tried to figure out how long it lastes so I did this.

Scott May 13, 2009 @ 7:00 pm

The quickest my battery has been drained was back when my 3 year old was “playing” with my iPhone. During that time, He managed to download 5 apps and watch an episode of Spongebob Squarepants over and over. Let me say, I could not be more proud! :)

Adam May 13, 2009 @ 10:56 pm

On christmas Eve. I Played Guitar Rock Tour. I played the heck outta that Game. Its a fun game. After i was done playing it. I could not belive my battery was almost dead in such a short time. Its the only app that kills my iphone in a short period of time. To play that game you need to be next to a wall plugged in. I love that game.

On a trip to TX from SC. The misses and I were driving and we both do not have car chargers (purchased since then) nor did we have external battery packs. I turned off 3G/EDGE, push, brightness set to 25%. The phone was only turned on when it was necessary to make a cal of send a text. we only needed 4 more hours out of the phones before they died on us! C’Mon Apple, give us better battery life!!!

zach May 14, 2009 @ 7:05 am

i always ensure my phone is fully charged, and never really is it a necessity for me to use, but more of a luxury. of course the day i get caught in a blizzard on the side of the road, i have exhausted my battery life that day and had no phone left for my self presservation.

jimmy May 14, 2009 @ 1:09 pm

I use my battery the quickest listening to Howard Stern through uSirius and Orb. With wifi, I can make a four hour show. Not on 3g, I’d be lucky to make to the news with Robin!

Jeff May 14, 2009 @ 3:58 pm

I commute on the train so a full battery on my iphone is a requirement. I use my cbsradio app for listening to sports radio at work and one day I forgot all about it running when I got up to go to a meeting. Well the meeting went for WAYYYYYYY longer that it should have and when I ran back to my desk to grab the afternoon train I plugged in for my walk and I was dead in the water. Made for a VERY long ride home on the train.

Jack May 14, 2009 @ 7:25 pm

It was finals week and during a study break, I was in the middle of some intense MGStouch, when all of a sudden… drained. Battery pack would keep me going through all my classes :)

Ryan Bedics May 14, 2009 @ 9:17 pm

The fastest i ever drained my iphone’s battery when I was on a 4 1/2 hour trip to Maryland. I decided to pass the time by playing Games and testing out new apps on my iphone. The battery life didn’t last as long as I thought. So as I reached for my car charger, I remembered i left it at home. As you can imagine the rest of that trip wasn’t very pleasant.

Anthony lara May 14, 2009 @ 11:05 pm

I used up it battery watching the first 3 episodes of chapples show season one.

Doug Bulfin May 15, 2009 @ 1:22 am

My first few days of having my iPhone I couldn’t keep my hands off of it…not knowing ways to conserve battery life, and just going crazy streaming video, watching movies, text, email, checking the weather just cuz I could, surfing the web and reading about the iPhone on my iPhone LOL ya I’m obsessed, downloading apps and dropping hundreds of dollars within weeks! Doing just about everything but making calls LOL. Well halfway into that day I needed to make a call, and sure enough no battery life!!! For awhile now I’ve been in the habit of charging my iPhone towards the end of my shift 9pm so I have it for my train ride when I get off at 11pm. So that awesome Mophie Juicepak Air would be a great thing to have!!! Plus I’ve been waiting for it to come out! Me want!!!

Denny B. May 17, 2009 @ 7:59 pm

The first day I didnt fully charge the battery. I just couldn’t wait to try out all of the iphone’s features. It lasted me about an hour but i realized just how much better this phone was than any other cell phone.
