Now that MacWorld’s come and gone, the questions in a lot of users minds are: when is the next iPhone OS update going to be and what is it going to include. The answers to these two questions are very elusive as seemingly no information is available on them. At least for iPhone OS 2.2 there were rumors prior to it being available as to what it would include and when it would be released, but as far as this next release, anyone’s guess is as good as the next.

In any case, I’ve heard that the release is coming out at the end of this month and will include:
  • Push Notification Services
  • More iChat features?
  • Themes

Truthfully I don’t know about the last two but I am sure missing cut and paste and the ability for 3rd party applications to run in the background…We’ll see what comes out and who’s right. If the update doesn’t come in January, I’m sure it’ll come in early February.

Have you heard anything else? Any speculation on your part?

I don’t see 3rd-party background apps becoming available for quite some time. Apple is still big on the whole “Do it our way with our thing. Trust us, we know what you want” thing. There’s a reason why the battery life (albeit short) lasts longer than most smart phones’.

That being said, I’d LOVE for a cut & paste function to become available. That, and the ability to send & receive pix messages outside of mailing. I’m just old school like that.
