Green Eye, LLC today is pleased to announce the release and immediate availability of Pirate Battle 1.2 for iPhone OS, an update to their digital realization of the classic game of Battleship. In the original, five different ships between one and four squares in length are hidden within each player’s ocean grid. Players take turns calling out a box (i.e. B1), and the opponent declares it a hit or miss. In Pirate Battle, Internet connected players tap a box in their blue ocean grid to fire, getting an explosion or splash in reply.
Among casual, time-wasting games, Battleship has always been one of the most popular. It is a naval battle with frequent surprises, as players try to determine where their opponent has hidden his/her ships and then sink them. Pirate Battle captures all the elements that have made Battleship such a perennial favorite.
Graphics and design are skillfully rendered, following a pirate treasure map motif. There are single-player and multi-player modes, both requiring an Internet connection. One can challenge another player via their user name, a contact list, or random selection. The highly detailed ships are seen in overhead view and are easily positioned, horizontally or vertically. Email or push notifications can be selected, and games may be saved and resumed later. The game includes an integrated chat system allowing players to comment during gameplay.
