The release is being labeled iPhone OS BETA 2 build 7A259.

Main factors are the server side for the Push Notifications feature will be opened gradually to developers. Push Notifications are Apple’s way to have Apps keeping track of changes in the background. It has been reported that BETA 2 of the iPhone 3.0 OS is running faster than BETA 1. A few bugs seen previously have also been fixed. Some specific components that received attention were GameKit, Bluetooth, MapKit, Fonts, the messaging user interface and text fields.
