We recently reported on rumors that a 4GB version of the iPhone 3G was going to be sold at Walmart for an unbelievable price of just $99. Well it seems that these rumors are untrue, but Walmart will indeed be selling the iPhone at a discount.

December 28th is still the shelf date for the iPhone 3G. You will be able to pick up an 8GB version for $197, that’s a whole 2 dollars off. They will also be selling the 16GB version for about $399. It looks like Walmart is trying to hold strong to their famous low prices. According to Bloomberg’s Connie Guglielmo, “Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will become the second mass-market retail chain [after Best Buy] to start selling Apple Inc.’s iPhone, with two store representatives saying the world’s largest retailer will carry two models of the Web-surfing handset this month.”

Managers at several stores say that the iPhone 3G may be in stock before Christmas. We all know Walmart is known for letting products slip out early, why should the iPhone 3G be any different? One source did say however that they would be selling the handset on December 15th, but like all rumors this may end up not being true.
